WARTIME STORIES DAY: The Shetland Bus | RAF Banff Strike Wing | Banffshire at War | Living History

November 15 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Join us at Banff Castle for a free day exploring remarkable stories from the Second World War – from secret wartime operations and the air war over the North Sea to life here in Banffshire.

Hearts Across the Sea tells the remarkable story of the Shetland Bus – the clandestine wartime operation which linked Shetland with occupied Norway during the Second World War.

We’ll also be screening the RAF Banff Strike Wing film, telling the story of the famous strike wing which operated from Banff during the closing stages of the war.

Both films will be showing throughout the day, so just drop in and watch at a time that suits you.

Our popular Banffshire at War exhibition also returns to the Studio Gallery. First created for our 2025 VE Day event, it explores Banffshire’s experience of the Second World War – from evacuees, rationing and everyday life on the Home Front to spies on the Banffshire coast, the RAF Banff Strike Wing and the wartime stories of Banff Castle and Banff Distillery.

And this time we’re bringing history to life.

We’ll be joined by Forces Through History, whose WWII living-history displays include British, American and Soviet portrayals, period equipment, information displays and the chance to meet and talk to their living-history interpreters.

Drop in at any time between 10am and 4pm.

Admission is free – donations are welcome.
